Cavanagh left Molyneux after war broke out, joining the British Army Intelligence Corps (1940-1946). After the war, he worked for Pierre Balmain as a design assistant from 1947 until 1952, when he launched his eponymous fashion house, at 26 Curzon Street. He became a member of IncSoc the same year, after just one collection (usually designers had to present at least four collections to even be considered). Cavanagh was renowned for his elegant tailoring, flair for colour and style, as well as the high standard and quality of his designs. His work was described as "Paris in London" and members of the English aristocracy ordered his dresses for the Queen's coronation celebrations in 1953. In the 1960s, Cavanagh opened a ready to wear boutique next to his couture house. He retired in 1974. CONDITION Please bear in mind that, as garments are pre-loved, normal wear is to be expected. This dress is in very good vintage condition, the zip works perfectly and there are no stains, rips or tears. Colour may differ due to lighting conditions and computer settings.
